St. Leonhard in Passeier combines distinctive hiking experiences with notable historical sites. The MuseumPasseier in San Leonardo in Passiria is dedicated to freedom fighter Andreas Hofer and presents Tyrolean history, particularly the 1809 uprising. Jaufenburg Castle is also located in St. Leonhard. It is open on Mondays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The fourth floor of Jaufenburg Castle houses Renaissance paintings created by Bartlme Dill Riemenschneider in 1538.

The French Military Cemetery in St. Leonhard is also connected with the history of 1809. In November 1809, a violent confrontation took place in which 22 Passeier rebels were killed; on the French side, 200 soldiers and 30 officers were reported dead. In 1959, a local rifle company installed a marble plaque at the French Military Cemetery. During excavations at the French Military Cemetery in 2013, a knife as well as bone fragments and pieces of clothing were found, indicating the presence of a corresponding grave.
Hiking Trails with Different Themes
The Andreas Hofer Circular Trail begins at the tourist office in St. Leonhard, leads to the historically significant Sandhof and returns to the starting point via the Gandellen Trail No. 3A or the Passer Trail No. 30. The Norggensteig Trail begins at Sandhof and follows Trail No. 30 along the Passer to the Auer Bridge. The Norggensteig Trail includes a wooded section with illustrated legends, play stations and a picnic area in a small clearing.
The Passer Gorge Trail begins at the village bridge in St. Leonhard and leads across bridges and footbridges along the river into the Passer Gorge.
Climbing, Water and Fishing
The Sportarena Passeier climbing facility is located in Gänsboden in St. Leonhard Passeier. SportArena Passeier has 400 m² of climbing area, a 16 m-high wall and 101 routes ranging from difficulty level 3a to 8a, with a maximum length of 19 m. Climbing plans can be based on difficulty levels 3a to 8a and the maximum route length of 19 m.
The St. Leonhard outdoor adventure pool offers a water slide, a waterfall, a current pool, two children's pools, water massages, floor bubblers and water loungers. The local recreation area with the Sandwirt fishing pond is freely accessible to locals and visitors. Fishing at the Sandwirt fishing pond is possible without a state fishing licence.
Cycling Tour from Merano
The Merano–St. Leonhard cycle path in the Passeier Valley is an easy cycling tour on a natural surface, approximately 20 km long with an elevation gain of about 370 m.
