Frauenstein: Hotels and Accommodations

Culture

Frauenstein Castle Ruins were built around 1200 during the settlement of the area on behalf of the Margrave of Meissen. They are open to visitors from May 1 to October 31, provided weather conditions permit; admission tickets are issued at the Gottfried Silbermann Museum.

Concert series featuring international and regional artists are held at the Gottfried Silbermann Museum, Frauenstein Town Church, and Nassau Village Church. Nassau Village Church is also home to a Gottfried Silbermann organ dating from 1746–1747. It was restored in 1998 and is considered to be very well preserved.

The castle ruins and the museum are considered part of the town center. The town information office can arrange guided tours of the Gottfried Silbermann Museum, the ruins, the town, and hiking trails. The Friends of Frauenstein Castle association offers castle adventure tours about the lives of knights and robbers, including the castle ghost “Vrouwin” for younger visitors.

Nature

The FND Schlosspark Frauenstein is a protected area of approximately two hectares. It is located about 150 meters north of Frauenstein and borders the castle wall. The palace park lies at the transition between nutrient-poor granite porphyry and adjacent gneiss. A near-natural mixed beech forest with sycamore maple, ash, and field elm has developed there. Numerous hiking trails cross the area.

Hiking and Trails

The Talsperre Lichtenberg–Schillermühlenweg circular hiking trail leads from Frauenstein via Burkersdorf to the forebasin of the Lichtenberg Reservoir and returns along natural trails beside the Gimmlitz.

The Silbermann-Frauenstein-Nassau circular trail is considered unsuitable for bicycles and strollers. It passes the Röthenhübel viewpoint, from which the Ore Mountains can be seen. The circular trail is listed as 15.6 kilometers long, with a stated walking time of four hours. In the Nassau district, the fitness trail offers a family-oriented outdoor activity.
