Insul is the destination of the challenging Aremberg–Insul stage of the AhrSteig. The approximately 19 km-long hike leads through forest, along narrow rocky paths and past steep sandstone formations, accompanied by the largely unspoilt Ahr River.

Hiking

Another AhrSteig stage runs from Insul to Altenahr-Kreuzberg. It is 17.4 km long and leads through floodplain forest, along forest paths and through heathland. Viewpoints overlooking the Ahr heights are also part of this route.

The Hohe Warte is located in the vicinity of Insul. Schöneberg and Saberg are situated in the surrounding area.

Culture

The St. Rochus Chapel is part of the local heritage, with its tradition documented from 1631. The former chapel was replaced by a new building in 1884.

The Insul Mill is also known as Stappen Mill and Hahnensteiner Mill. It was first mentioned in 1556; the present mill building bears the year 1729.

The wider regional area around Insul includes the Dollendorf Ruin, the Southeastern Tower, the Teichstrasse Tower, the Grosse Bleiche Tower and the Gänsehalsturm.
