In the Bergstätt area of Missen-Wilhams, the ski lifts offer opportunities for skiing and snowboarding. The ski area includes seven lifts in two districts; the Thalerhöhe lifts in Missen-Wiederhofen are specifically named. The runs range from easy to intermediate. The Tuffenmoos Moor Experience Trail is in the Wiederhofen district. Three short boardwalks lead into the moor with minimal impact on nature and introduce visitors to the habitats of wet meadows, peat-cutting edges and raised bog. From Missen, the trail can be reached via the Luimweg in a 45-minute walk. As walking times can vary depending on conditions, treat this as a guide for planning your day.
Carl Hirnbein Adventure Trail and Local History
The Carl Hirnbein Adventure Trail connects the municipalities of Missen-Wilhams and Weitnau and can be walked in either direction. Its numerous stations offer insights into the period before and during Carl Hirnbein’s time, as well as life in the Allgäu. Visitors can listen to stories at two audio stations. Play areas are located along the trail near the destination. In the Weitnau Children’s Forest, these include climbing nets between trees, a swaying ravine bridge, tree swings and a giant climbing spider.
The Carl Hirnbein Museum in Missen-Wilhams also explores Carl Hirnbein’s life and work. One focus is his pivotal role in the Allgäu’s development from impoverished arable farming to successful dairy farming.
Alpine Pastures and Regional Products
At the alpine dairies in Missen-Wilhams, milk from herb-rich alpine meadows is made directly into cheese and butter. Numerous alpine huts also invite visitors to enjoy coffee, homemade cakes and a hearty snack. Opening days may vary from hut to hut. Check opening days in advance.
