Neureichenau is located in the Danube Forest region at the tripoint of Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic, as well as at the foot of Mount Dreisessel in the Lower Bavarian Forest. The municipality in the district of Freyung-Grafenau in Lower Bavaria is a state-recognized health resort.

Geographical location

The Pleckenstein Forest lies north of the municipality. The easternmost point of Bavaria is also located in the municipal district of Riedelsbach. Spitzenberg is situated in the vicinity of Neureichenau.

Culture and history

The settlement history of Neureichenau is connected with a traveling glassworks that operated in the Reichenau area around 1600. Historically, Neureichenau was known as Unterreichenau and belonged to the former Prince-Bishopric of Passau before the town became part of Bavaria in 1806.
