Hiking Trails and Kneipp Facility

Opened in 1985, the Lalling Kneipp facility includes a water-treading pool, an arm basin, several benches and a covered rest area. In the Feng Shui Kurpark, the 1.2 km-long nature discovery trail forms a short circular route via Jägerhölzl and Ahornweg; it ends at the Lalling Kneipp facility.

The Steinbruchsteig is an approximately 7.5 km-long educational circular hiking trail. From Lalling, it runs via Feng Shui Park and Euschertsfurth, passes a 600-year-old lime tree, and returns to Lalling. The Steinbruchsteig and the nature discovery trail pass close to the Kneipp facility and can be combined with a Kneipp session. As access conditions may change, it is advisable to check access to the facility before your visit.

The Frohnmühlenweg is an approximately 3 km-long circular hike from the centre of Lalling via Ranzing and Frohnmühle and back to Lalling. It is described as very easy and is suitable for winter hikes. The season is more of a consideration on the Steinbruchsteig: this route is only partly accessible in winter. The two trails therefore differ both in length and in their stated suitability for winter.

Stages and Longer Hiking Trails

Those wishing to include Lalling in a longer hike can choose between two long-distance trails with different routes and destinations. Stage S 18 of the Goldsteig South Route is a 16 km-long certified quality long-distance hiking trail from Landshuter Haus to Lalling. It runs via Rusel, Datting, Kapfing and Gerholling-Dösing.

The approximately 88 km-long Gunthersteig is a pilgrimage trail from Niederalteich to Dobrá Voda in the Czech Republic. It runs via Lalling as well as Richnach, Lindberg, Spiegelhütte and Scheuereck. Compared with the 16 km-long Goldsteig stage, the Gunthersteig covers a considerably longer overall distance and connects places in Germany and the Czech Republic along its route.

Church and Regional Context

A cultural landmark in Lalling is St. Stephen's Parish Church. It houses a Gothic Madonna known as the Turkish Madonna. Together with the hiking trails, it offers a different focus from the Kneipp facility and the outdoor routes described above.

The broader travel destination of Deggendorf has its own landscape and cultural setting. The Deggendorf region stretches from the heights of the Bavarian Forest across the Danube landscape, including the Isar estuary, to the rich colours of the Gäuboden. The elevation in this area ranges from 200 to 1,150 metres above sea level.

In Deggendorf, Natternberg Castle Ruins can be reached by footpaths from three sides. From there, the view extends across the Gäuboden and into the Bavarian Forest. Winzer Castle Ruins are noted for their magnificent view of the Danube valley. These regional viewpoints add to your orientation without replacing Lalling's local trails and attractions.
