Nature
The Refuge de la Martin is located within the municipality of Villaroger in Vanoise National Park and can be reached on foot via several easy, signposted paths. From La Gurraz, the ascent takes around 1 hour and 45 minutes, covers 550 metres of elevation gain and a total distance of 7.5 kilometres.
The hiking trail from La Gurraz to the Refuge de la Martin passes waterfalls, glacial streams and alpine meadows and offers views of the glaciers de la Martin and de la Savinaz.
The Refuge de Turia is a starting point for mountaineering tours to Mont Turia, Dôme de la Sache and Mont Pourri. At the same time, it is a stage for hikers who want to circumnavigate Mont Pourri or explore Vanoise National Park and the Réserve Naturelle de Villaroger.
The Réserve des Hauts de Villaroger covers 1,062 hectares. In Planay, the Maison de la Réserve welcomes visitors; free guided walks along the paths are available on request.
Culture
At the Saint Roch festival, held every year on the Sunday after 15 August, the residents of La Gurraz take turns making traditional bread for three nights and two days.
A bread oven dates back to the 19th century.
