Valloire: Hotels and Accommodation

The Galibier-Thabor ski area offers 160 km of skiing across five slopes in Valloire. In addition, the resort has a well-maintained network of cross-country ski trails suitable for beginners as well as experienced cross-country skiers. The trails include routes for both classic technique and skating.

If you would like to book a hotel in Valloire, choosing the specific accommodation is a separate step from selecting the winter sports resort.

Trails and Nature

In summer, Valloire offers 14,000 hectares of hiking trails between alpine pastures, well-known mountain passes and alpine panoramas. They range from the Col du Télégraphe at 1,556 m to the Col du Galibier at 2,642 m.

Lac des Cerces is located in the Massif des Cerces and offers views of the Grand Galibier and the Aiguilles d’Arves. The hike there is considered accessible to most visitors. The route to Lac des Cerces leads from Valloire via Route 902 towards the Col du Galibier, past the hamlet of Bonnenuit, to the free Plan Lachat car park. In summer, Plan Lachat is served by some shuttle buses. Along the route is the Buvette du Galibier, a refreshment stop known for its fresh-fruit tarts.

Culture and History

Fort du Télégraphe was built between 1885 and 1893 on the site of a relay station of the optical Chappe telegraph on the imperial Paris–Milan line. Valloire consists of 17 hamlets, each of which has its own chapel.

The Baroque Eglise Notre Dame de l’Assomption in Valloire is an example of 17th-century Savoyard Baroque and was consecrated in 1682. It features a main altarpiece, a choir vault with plaster stucco, side altarpieces, altar paintings by the Dufour family and frescoes in the nave.

The straw and hay sculptures of Valloire are located on the Route des Grandes Alpes at the exit of the hamlet of Les Verneys, between the centre of Valloire and the Galibier. The displayed straw and hay sculptures remain visible until All Saints’ Day.

Free shuttle buses connect Valloire with its hamlets via eight lines in winter and summer.

Fort du Télégraphe is accessible exclusively in summer as part of guided tours. These are offered by the Guides du Patrimoine Savoie Mont-Blanc and FACIM. From the car park at the Col du Télégraphe, the fort can be reached via a small road in approximately 10 minutes.

The location of the straw and hay sculptures can be reached by shuttle in summer, on foot in 40 minutes via a hiking trail from the centre of Valloire, or by using the free parking facilities nearby.
