Routes
Le Chemin des Ecoliers is a circular hike through the hamlets, chapels and traditional houses of Montvalezan, passing, among other places, the Chapelle Saint-Michel in Châtelard. In La Rosière–Montvalezan, the route is listed as taking 2 hours and 40 minutes and as being of moderate difficulty. It is designated for year-round use; in winter, snow conditions must be checked, and snowshoes may be required.
Le Chemin des Bergers is a difficult hike of approximately 2 hours and 50 minutes around the Combe des Moulins, starting at Plan de l’Arc in La Rosière–Montvalezan. The route passes through Plan Pigeux and Putétruit before returning to the leisure area at Plan de l’Arc.
La Rosière Bike Park has four downhill trails and six enduro and e-bike loops, with up to 1,200 meters of elevation gain. A marked route in La Rosière Bike Park connects France and Italy; it is accessible to mountain bikes and e-bikes and has charging stations along the route.
Culture
Montvalezan comprises around forty hamlets, many of which were organized around former agricultural activities. The hamlets of Montvalezan are characterized by stone and wooden houses, slate roofs and a compact layout. Several chapels in Montvalezan feature Baroque elements characteristic of Savoyard religious art.
The parish complex of Montvalezan includes a tower classified as a historic monument, built in 1674. The Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Liesse in Le Villaret contains an altar, an altarpiece and associated furnishings from the 18th century.
The Chapelle Saint-Michel in Châtelard was part of the 2026 summer program, during which chapels in Montvalezan were opened to the public. The Église Saint Jean-Baptiste is open for free visits on Thursdays in July and August from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
