In the centre of Les Marches stands a château built in the 14th century to strengthen the border of the County of Savoy. The new town of Les Marches was founded in 1301. To this day, the town centre preserves towers, defensive walls, fortifications, old houses and a bread oven.

History and town centre

The Église des Marches is a neoclassical church from the early 19th century, built by G. Trivelli. It can be visited independently throughout the year.

The town’s historical heritage also includes the Sardinian boundary stones. They date from the period between 1672 and 1852 and document the former border between Savoy and France.

Food and local offerings

The Domaine des Granges Longes offers wine tours and tastings. By reservation, the offer also includes introductions to food and wine pairings as well as tastings of local cheeses with wines from the wine-growing region.

A small food market takes place weekly in Les Marches. It features a roast chicken vendor, a cheesemonger and vendors selling seasonal produce.

Nature and trails

Lac de Saint-André lies at the foot of Mont Granier. It is a protected natural area and is classified as a “Grand Site” of the département. At Lac de Saint-André, 216 legally protected plant species and 25 legally protected dragonfly species have been recorded.

The Circuit patrimonial des Abymes passes through Les Marches and the vineyards at the foot of the Chartreuse massif. The hike through the Vignobles du Granier et lac Saint-André initially follows the shore of Lac Saint-André.
