Cruet: Hotels and accommodation

The wall paintings of Cruet constitute a rare complete example in France of a secular medieval painting cycle from the 14th century. The ensemble, consisting of twelve panels, was discovered in 1985 at the Château de la Rive in Cruet. The cycle provides an insight into aristocratic life and chivalric ideals.

Culture and history

The Ancienne voie romaine in Cruet follows the route of a former Sardinian road that was used from antiquity until 1766. The 188-metre-long Pont Victor-Emmanuel, also known as the Pont des Anglais, was completed in 1856; the bridge was listed by a decree of 19 August 1994. The Grangerie de Lourdens was once owned by the monks of the Chartreuse d’Aillon. The Grangerie contains a vaulted cellar from the 17th century.

Nature

The dry grasslands of Cruet lie at an altitude of between 500 and 550 m on moderately sloping hillsides. They are home to plant species that are rare in Savoie.

Trails

The Sentier des Papillons is a 2.9 km-long themed trail with 194 metres of elevation gain and a stated duration of 2 hours 30 minutes. The trail begins at the hamlet of La Baraterie in the municipality of Cruet and is one of four discovery loops along the Chemin des Vignes in the Combe de Savoie.
