Winter Activities and Trails

In winter, the Col de Rousset resort offers alpine skiing and snowshoeing for the whole family. In summer, the activities include a rail toboggan run, a panoramic chairlift, downhill scooters and mountain biking. For winter sports activities, the season and type of activity should be considered separately when preparing. For alpine skiing and snowshoeing, current opening and operating hours can be checked before travelling. For summer activities, it is also advisable to check the relevant operating hours.

The hiking trails have clearly differentiated difficulty levels. The easy Chabotte loop leads through meadows and to several small hamlets. The “Les crêtes du col de Rousset” hike is 9.16 km long, has an elevation gain of 455 metres, takes 3 hours and 30 minutes, and is considered rather difficult. It begins at the car park of the Col de Rousset resort in Saint-Agnan-en-Vercors. Trail length, elevation gain and duration describe different planning factors of a tour. For hikes, the current condition of the trails can be checked before travelling.

Further destinations: Pierrelongue, Saint-Julien-En-Quint, Mollans-Sur-Ouveze, Lus-La-Croix-Haute, Plaisians, Léoncel, Bouvante and La Chapelle-En-Vercors.

Culture and History

The Chapelle Saint Regis lies hidden at the top of a moraine amid beech and boxwood vegetation. It is accessible exclusively on foot. For destinations that can only be reached on foot, current trail conditions can be checked before travelling.

At the Grotte de La Luire, the forecourt and the guided tour also differ in terms of access. The forecourt of the Grotte de La Luire, designated a “Site Naturel Classé”, is freely accessible. The Grotte de La Luire offers a one-hour guided tour for a fee. The Grotte de La Luire site was classified as national cultural heritage on 20 May 1946. For guided tours, the current tour times can be checked before travelling.

Saint-Alexis also has two dated historical references. The fortified site of Saint-Alexis is mentioned as early as in an agreement from 1253. The Chapelle Saint-Alexis was rebuilt in 1780 on its older foundations. For historical sites, current visiting hours can be checked before travelling.

Plants and Landscape

At L'hortus de la Vernaison, cultivation and processing are directly connected. On two plots, L'hortus de la Vernaison grows aromatic and medicinal plants, some fruit trees and berries. The plants are primarily distilled to produce hydrosols and a small quantity of essential oil. L'hortus de la Vernaison processes the essential oils obtained there on site by hand into superfatting soaps. For artisanal processing facilities, current opening hours can be checked before travelling.

The Réserve naturelle nationale des Hauts-Plateaux du Vercors is characterised by a succession of alpine pastures and forests, as well as limestone plateaus and cliffs. Hikes through landscapes with alpine pastures, forests, limestone plateaus and cliffs can be planned using current trail conditions.
