The Refuge du Pelvoux is located at an altitude of 2,704 meters on a rocky outcrop, about a 3.5-hour walk from Ailefroide, and is also the starting point for mountaineering routes. The Chalet-Refuge du Pré de Madame Carle is located above the hamlet of Ailefroide at the foot of Mont Pelvoux and the Écrins.
