Winter sports
The Nordic ski area of Ancelle extends for around 20 kilometres and offers both classic cross-country skiing and skating. In Ancelle, snowshoeing and dog-sled excursions are also offered as activities in the Nordic ski area.
The trails in the Nordic ski area lead into the Rouanne Valley, a natural landscape surrounded by larch and fir trees.
Activities
The via ferrata in the Rouanne Valley near Ancelle offers three levels of difficulty. The Rouanne Valley can be reached from Ancelle or from the Rouanne Haute car park. Canyoning is possible there; the support of a guide is strongly recommended.
Six trail courses for all ability levels were initially established in Ancelle; one year later, two more courses were added. Four new downhill mountain-bike courses were established from the Chatégré chairlift.
Paragliding flights generally take off from Cuchon in the late afternoon or evening; the weather conditions are the determining factor.
Nature
The municipality of Ancelle is home to bocage landscapes, numerous wetlands, alpine grasslands, and wooded mountain slopes.
The Rouanne Valley offers hiking opportunities as well as mountain biking in summer and snowshoeing, ski touring, and cross-country skiing in winter.
Culture and Cuisine
The Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens Chapel in Les Matherons dates from 1803. The Moulin Bresson was added to an existing sawmill that had been built around 1836.
The St-Philippe archaeological site near Ancelle documents human settlement over a period of nearly 6,000 years – from the Neolithic period, beginning around 5500 BC, to the modern era.
