Nature

In Aulus-les-Bains, you can go hiking, cycling, mountain biking, trail running and canyoning, as well as skiing or snowshoeing in winter. Étang du Garbet is the largest natural lake in the Aulus-les-Bains valley. The route there is 11 kilometres long and is signposted as a return route; the hike begins in Agneserre in Aulus-les-Bains.

Thermal History

The first documented traces of Aulus-les-Bains’ thermal history date back to 1824. Aulus-les-Bains’ first Grand Hôtel was built from 1870 onwards on the initiative of Auguste Calvet, who was also involved in the use of the thermal springs during the same period.

The Aqua-détente facility is open to the public from the age of three; proof of age is required.

Culture

The museum of Aulus-les-Bains includes a memorial wall for deportees, as well as life stories of Jewish people under compulsory residence and of villagers who helped them. The memorial stele in Aulus-les-Bains commemorates 686 Jewish people who were under compulsory residence in Aulus-les-Bains during the Second World War.

The “Espace muséal et mémoriel” documents the history of Aulus-les-Bains from 1942 to 1943.

The tourist information office of Aulus-les-Bains is less than a ten-minute walk from the “AULUS-LES-BAINS – Centre/Rond-Point” bus stop.
