Nature
The area around Pas de Cère is classified as an Espace Naturel Sensible (ENS) because of its wildlife and plant life, including the otter. The Sentier découverte du Pas de Cère runs through the area: a marked, moderately difficult 2 km circular trail with an outward and return route, for which approximately one hour is allocated.
The Cascade de Faillitoux is located at an altitude of 1,020 m and has a drop of more than 40 m. The Boucle de Faillitoux leads to the Cascade de Faillitoux; the Cascade de Faillitoux runs alongside a large block of volcanic rock and a lava flow. The basalt columns of the lava flow make it a geological feature of particular interest.
Culture and History
The Eglise Saint-Martin was built at the end of the 15th century and was formerly a priory. It contains an altarpiece classified as a Monument historique.
The Chaumière de Granier is a restored farm at an altitude of 1,050 m, opposite the Puy Griou above the Cère Valley. A museographic tour there provides insights into 100 years of life and work in a mountain village in Cantal.
Notre Dame de Consolation is a mountain chapel known for the devotional visits of Anne of Austria. To visit its interior, visitors can ask for the key at the village shops before setting out.
Trails and Sightseeing
The GR400 is one of the hiking trails in Thiézac. Niervèze is also a typical mountain hamlet that visitors can explore together with the Moulin de Niervèze. The roof of the Moulin de Niervèze, like the roof of the hamlet's bread oven, is covered with large phonolite slabs; the Moulin de Niervèze has been put back into operation for visits.
