Lées-Athas: Hotels and Accommodation

Lées-Athas is located in the Aspe Valley in the mountains and combines a green setting with distinctive landscape and village features. The Aire Naturelle de Lées-Athas nature campsite is opposite the Cirque d'Iseye d'Accous. Nature

The Tour des Anaques starts at the fronton between Lées Town Hall and the church. This very easy, 3.5-kilometre walk involves an elevation gain of 60 metres and is suitable for families. It leads through the village streets, past houses from earlier times with decorated lintels, across a meadow and along a white limestone path beside walls and boxwood shrubs.

The Chemin de Pirait is a moderately difficult, 12.3-kilometre hike with 720 metres of elevation gain for fit hikers. The route offers several panoramic views; as it is mostly open, it provides views in both directions. La mousquère is a natural site on a windswept promontory where the livestock lie down during the hottest hours of the day. The Cromlech du Pirait is also located directly on the Chemin de Pirait and may be hidden by ferns in summer.

The Chemin de Pirait is also documented for mountain bikers: mountain bike route VTT No. 42 – Chemin de Pirait is moderately difficult, 14.5 kilometres long, has 650 metres of elevation gain and is aimed at fit riders.

Culture

The parish church of Saint-Félix in Athas was built at the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries, damaged by fire in 1569, remodelled in the 17th century and restored in the 19th century. Its portal bears the inscription “HOC EST PORTA COLI”. The church features mixed masonry made of limestone, rubble stone, slate, pebbles and marble, as well as a slate roof.

Les Faucheurs is a tradition of its own: every year, men carefully mow ferns on the slopes to create a human figure or an animal.

Local produce

The GAEC Bouchoo family farm in the village of Lées-Athas offers Tome des Pyrénées made from sheep's milk, mixed milk or cow's milk, as well as farm-made ice cream from sheep's milk.
