Jungholtz: Hotels and Accommodation

The Jewish cemetery of Jungholtz was established at the beginning of the 17th century in the moat of the former Château de Schauenbourg and is listed in the register of historic monuments. It preserves hundreds of graves.

Culture and History

The yeshiva building is the only surviving remnant of the former synagogue and Talmud school of Jungholtz. In the village centre, there is also the modern Saint Joseph concrete chapel at the foot of a shady vineyard slope. It was built between May 1957 and December 1958.

The present-day Basilique Notre-Dame de Thierenbach is a church in the Austrian Baroque style, built by Peter Thumb in 1723. Jungholtz takes part in the European Heritage Days and seeks to find a local theme that is as closely aligned as possible with the national or regional theme selected for the occasion.

Landscape and Paths

The Basilique Notre-Dame de Thierenbach offers panoramic views extending across the Alsatian plain.

The Sentier pédagogique du Vallon de Thierenbach is a very easy, 2.6-kilometre walking trail that takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Along the route, information panels explain the history of the basilica and the valley, as well as the local fauna and flora.

The Basilique Notre-Dame de Thierenbach lies between the “Promenade au pied de Sainte Anne” walking trail and the starting point of the Stations of the Cross. The Sentier pédagogique du Vallon de Thierenbach offers views of the basilica and the meadows surrounding it.

Nature and Gastronomy

In Jungholtz, a giant sequoia is presented as part of the natural and cultural tree heritage.

La Ferme des Moines is a traditional restaurant in Jungholtz with décor inspired by the 18th century and a concept centred on cooking on volcanic stone.
