Plaine: Village, Forest and Historic Sites

The “Plaine Fun Walk” is a playful family tour through the village of Plaine and its forest. One version of the “Plaine Fun Walk” leads to the Étang de la Falle, while a viewpoint opens up a view of the Climont. The landscape is also marked by the Rocher de la Chatte Pendue, which reaches an elevation of 899 metres.

Nature and Trails

The Jardin de Niargoutte is open for private visits by appointment. Its plant collection includes more than 1,000 species, including trees, shrubs, perennials and bulbous plants. In 2026, special days are planned there featuring workshops on plant design, watercolour painting and nature outdoors, reconnecting with nature, and ecological gardening. History and Architectural Heritage

The grounds of the Nécropole nationale de Plaine are home to an equestrian monument to Joan of Arc. It commemorates the sacrifice of those who died in the First World War. The necropolis also contains the remains of soldiers who died for France in the fighting in the Bruche Valley in the summer of 1914 and during the liberation of the Colmar Pocket from 1944 to 1945. The Nécropole nationale de Plaine is located on Rue du Général-Tabouis in Plaine.

The parish church of Saint-Arnould was rebuilt around 1740. Dating from this period are the lower part of the portal or tower porch, part of the nave, and a holy-water stoup dated 1743. The church was enlarged after the war; work began in 1923, and it was consecrated on 22 September 1924. Built of rendered masonry, the structure has a three-storey portal porch, a nave with three bays, a transept and a semicircular choir.

Special Experiences

Le Tortillard offers a 20-minute ride on a scale-model steam locomotive at a scale of 1:3.
