Stage 09 of the Traversée du Massif des Vosges begins at Schirmeck town hall and is certified as a “Leading Quality Trail - Best of Europe”. The C05 hiking trail leads to the site of the former fortifications of Schirmeck Castle and offers panoramic views of Schirmeck.
Cycling
The C22 cycling tour begins in Schirmeck. After crossing the Climontaine Valley, it returns there via the cycle path along the Bruche. The C13 cycling tour leaves Schirmeck via the cycle path towards Fouday, passes through forest and mountain landscapes and offers panoramic views.
Culture and History
The Schirmeck synagogue was built in 1909 according to plans by the Strasbourg architects D. Falk and E. Wolf. The building of the “Kommandatur” of the former Schirmeck-Vorbrück internment camp, erected in 1943, is still located on Rue du Souvenir.
Schirmeck Castle was built in the early 13th century and destroyed by the Swedes in 1633 during the Thirty Years’ War.
