Culture and history

The castle in Lipová was built from 1737 to 1741 by Wilhelm Leopold Salm-Reifferscheidt, a member of the old nobility, as a family residence. It is an example of restrained Baroque architecture with distinct intercultural influences. Parts of the castle park, including the Baroque garden, have been restored.

The Church of Saints Simon and Jude also reflects the history of the town: it was built from 1691 to 1695, elevated to a deanery church in 1926, and listed as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic in 1958. Weekly services as well as concerts and meetings organized by the municipality are held in the church.

House No. 424, a traditional Upper Lusatian house, was built between 1721 and 1724 and has been a cultural monument of the Czech Republic since 1958. The restored house contains an information centre, a museum, and a gallery, all open year-round. The information centre is open daily from 10:00 to 17:00. The garden also contains a permanent geological exhibition comparing the geological similarities of the Šluknov Hook and the Upper Lusatian Highlands and displaying more than 20 rocks.

The cemetery chapel in Lipová was built in 1875 in the Neo-Romanesque style and reconstructed in 2018. Another chapel in Liščí dates from 1826; it has been reconstructed and has a bell tower with a bell.

The Třípanský kámen is a historic boundary stone dating from 1750. It bears the symbols of the neighboring estates of Sohland, Lipová, and Wehrsdorf. The castle pond of Lipová, also known as Slawatův rybník, has an island and covers an area of 11 hectares. It was built after the peasant uprising of 1680 as an imposed act of reconciliation.

Lipovské hudební léto also had a long-standing tradition. The event mainly featured classical music performed by Czech artists.

Nature and trails

The castle park and castle garden of Lipová include a tree nursery and a hornbeam maze. The castle park and castle garden, together with these facilities, are open free of charge all year round. Lipová’s historic lime-tree avenue provides a setting for walks and cycling trips.

A blue-marked hiking trail from Šluknov to Lobendava via Jáchym runs through the centre of Lipová. Cycle route No. 3041 also passes through Lipová. The Church Trail connects the Saxon town of Wehrsdorf with Lipová; it was restored in 2018 together with the town of Wehrsdorf and marked with tourist signs.

The Kolem zámeckého rybníka nature trail is 2.4 km long and has seven stations. It covers invertebrates, fish, plants, wet alder forests, and rodents. The trail is signposted in both directions from the pond dam and from the U Pytláka restaurant.

Surroundings

The Špičák mountain is located near Lipová. The surrounding area also includes Jitrovník mountain, the Idagrotte cave, and Großer Teichstein mountain. The wider regional area is home to the Postelwitzer Höhe viewpoint, Hohnstein Castle, the historic site of Hirniskretzschen, and the New Waterworks Redoubt fortification.
