Šluknov: Hotels and Accommodations

Šluknov combines a 63-kilometre network of signposted local trails with a remarkable concentration of sacred and historic sites. The Šluknov Trails are primarily intended for hiking; most of their routes can also be ridden by mountain bike.

Trails and Sacred Sites

The Šluknov Stations of the Cross was established between 1738 and 1756. It comprises 14 stations, 12 niche chapels and two brick chapels, and ends at the top of the hill at the Calvary Chapel. The Křížový vrch complex belongs to the Šluknov urban heritage conservation zone; the structures of the Stations of the Cross are protected monuments.

On the Trail of Sacred Monuments, visitors to Šluknov encounter crosses, chapels, sandstone statues and half-timbered houses. Along this trail, different testimonies to the local history of architecture and faith thus stand side by side.

Culture and History

The single-nave Baroque Church of St Wenceslas in Šluknov was built on the site of a 12th-century chapel and contains High Baroque statues. Numerous Baroque sandstone statues can also be seen throughout the town and along the access roads.

The first reports of the Schweidrich silver mine near Šluknov date back to the 15th century. Another prominent historical landmark is Šluknov Castle, built by Arnošt ze Šlejnic between 1566 and 1573.

The Zámecké slavnosti festival takes place in Šluknov every year on the last weekend of June at Šluknov Castle and in the castle park. The castle is surrounded by a reconstructed English-style park.

Townscape and Views

The Židovský vrch viewpoint is located on the northern outskirts of Šluknov, on the 373-metre-high Židovský vrch hill. From there, visitors have a direct view of the town's buildings, the Šluknov heritage conservation zone and the town's monuments.
