The Horní Podluží ski resort has three slopes with a total length of 650 m. The ski resort also includes a children’s park with passage gates and slalom poles, as well as snowboard obstacles and jumps of varying difficulty levels. Horní Podluží is a long, stretched-out village in the Lužničky valley on the border between the Lužické hory and České Švýcarsko regions.
Nature
Velký rybník is located on the western edge of Horní Podluží. It is part of the European Natura 2000 network, a 46-hectare nature reserve, and an important ornithological site where numerous migratory birds stop to rest. It includes wetlands along the shore with protected plants.
The Světlík site comprises wetland biotopes in direct contact with the pond, including wet and waterlogged meadows as well as a transitional peat bog in the northern part of the pond. It is a migratory bird resting site of supraregional importance; the most significant breeding bird species recorded there is the crane. The site is also home to a large population of the emerald damselfly (Leucorrhinia pectoralis).
Trails
The educational trail around Velký rybník is suitable for pedestrians and cyclists and connects Rybniště with Horní Podluží. A 4 km-long educational trail begins in Rybniště. The Světlík windmill can be reached via the Velký rybník–Světlík educational trail.
A signposted cycling route runs between Horní Podluží and Jiřetín pod Jedlovou. Another cycling route leads from Varnsdorf via Horní Podluží towards Česká Kamenice.
Culture and history
The Světlík windmill is registered as an immovable cultural monument in the cadastral area of Horní Podluží. It is located approximately 1.5 km north of Horní Podluží in the Světlík district (Lichtenberg), at an elevation of 500 m and on the edge of the Světlík nature reserve, on the shore of the pond of the same name.
Even before the beginnings of the Industrial Revolution, textile production was firmly established in Horní Podluží.
