The larger eastern part of the Vlkanov area stretches along the flat depression of the Vlkanovský potok and is predominantly used for agriculture. The forested slopes of the Český les extend into the western part of the cadastral area of Vlkanov.

Škarmanka is a mountain in the vicinity of Vlkanov. Železný vrch, Čerchov, and Jacklberg are mountains in the wider regional surroundings of Vlkanov.

History and Local Landmarks

The first written mention of Vlkanov dates from 1361. Before the Hussite Wars, Vlkanov belonged to the property of Pivoň Monastery. Since 1537, Vlkanov had belonged to the Poběžovice estate.

A remarkable cross can be seen directly in Vlkanov. The Vlkanov Rasovna is a well-known local historical feature mentioned in the works of the Catholic priest and writer Jindřich Šimon Baar. In the mid-19th century, the local hyclík (Ras) was considered a healer whom people from the surrounding area visited.

Routes and Public Events

The 35-kilometer-long Cyklotrasa 2141 runs through Vlkanov between Šitboř and Otov and is part of the Bavarian-Czech Friendship Trail.

In 2026, the Municipality of Vlkanov invited the general public to traditional Easter shooting competitions with air rifles.
