The townscape of Ždánov brings together architectural, religious, and landscape heritage.

Culture and townscape

At its centre stands Ždánov Castle, built in 1730 by the Pivoň Augustinians as a summer residence for guests of the Pivoň Augustinian Monastery. It has been listed as a cultural monument since 1958. The complex includes a farmyard on the southwestern edge of the village.

The main portal of Ždánov Castle has been restored, including the reinstatement of the Augustinian coat of arms’ earlier colour scheme. Opposite the castle stands a life-size sandstone statue of Saint Augustine. It is registered as an immovable cultural monument in Ždánov.

The historic centre of Ždánov forms an urbanistically significant compositional space in relation to the village pond. The restored Červený Mlýn is located in the cadastral area of Ždánov.

Religious heritage

The Chapel of Blessed Koloman and Saint Pio of Pietrelcina was completed on 23 September 2018 and consecrated by Bishop Mons. Tomáš Holub. A pilgrimage Mass is celebrated there in October. The six-metre-high wrought-iron cross near Wendlovna was restored in spring 2012.

Landscape

Pařezovský kopec is a registered significant landscape feature between Ždánov and Pařezov. It offers views of the Český les, including Čerchov and the Haltravský hřeben ridge. Endangered orchid species can still grow in this landscape feature.

On the way

Cycle route 2287 is signposted and equipped with rest areas and educational facilities. Along its 21 km-long section, information boards provide details about local history and other places of interest.
