Dešenice: Hotels and accommodations

The historic Tvrz Dešenice, also known as a castle, houses the Muzeum šumavského pivovarnictví Dešenice. The museum offers insights into the history of brewing in the Šumava region and presents this history; it includes a reconstructed historic taproom. In the mid-18th century, Tvrz Dešenice was thoroughly renovated in the Baroque style without eliminating its Renaissance character. A brewery was later established there. To the left of the entrance to Tvrz Dešenice is Kámen doteku, next to the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk in the fortress wall. The smoothly worked stone invites visitors to touch it.

Culture and history

The Kostel sv. Mikuláše complex includes the church, which dates from the mid-14th century, as well as gravestones, an enclosing wall, a Baroque gate, and a mortuary chapel.

Dešenice is one of six Czech municipalities participating in the cross-border Kámen doteku project together with the Bavarian municipalities of Eschlkam, Lam, Neukirchen b.Hl.Blut, Arrach, and Lohberg. The other Czech municipalities are Chudenín, Hamry, Nýrsko, Strážov, and Všeruby.

Nature and trails

Routes from Dešenice lead to the Městišťská rokle nature reserve. Cycling routes from Dešenice also pass through deep Šumava forests with beautiful viewpoints.

The Po stopách formanů educational trail starts and ends at Dešenice railway station, forming a circular route. It includes seven stops with information boards.
