Horská Kvilda: Hotels and Accommodations

In winter, Horská Kvilda is primarily characterized by the cross-country skiing trail system in the surrounding area. If there is sufficient snow cover, the trails are machine-groomed from December 15 to March 31. Wooden signposts bearing a skier symbol or the standard KČT markings serve for orientation.

Cross-Country Skiing and Trails

The Horská Kvilda–Kvilda footpath runs mostly along the cross-country skiing trail, but deviates from it in some places. Wet sections are crossed via boardwalks. The connection was opened in 2011 on the initiative of the two municipalities.

Moorland at Jezerní slať

Jezerní slať is a raised bog covering more than 200 hectares between Horská Kvilda and Kvilda. The starting point of the trail for visitors is located at a small parking area on the Horská Kvilda–Kvilda road; its surface is unpaved. A lookout tower at the entrance to Jezerní slať offers views of almost the entire bog.

Historical Traces

The Zlatá stezka passed through Horská Kvilda. As a medieval trade and salt route, it connected Passau with Kašperské Hory. Some sections are still visible, mostly in the form of sunken lanes.

Traditional Village Character

Before the Second World War, the prevailing building type in the original development of Horská Kvilda was the Šumava log house.
