Saillon is situated on a hillside amid terraced vineyards and offers more than 60 kilometres of walking paths on signposted, accessible trails.
Culture
The medieval quarter of Saillon was laid out around the year 1000 and is surrounded by a circular wall with four gates. The Bayart Tower was built in 1260 and is Saillon’s landmark. You can climb the tower via an interior staircase; at the top, a 360-degree panorama opens up.
The Counterfeit Money Museum is located in the medieval quarter. It presents the history of Swiss currency, from coins dating back to Gallic times to the present day.

Nature
The Farinet footbridge crosses the Salentze Gorge 136 metres above the ground and is 92 metres long. From the bridge, the view extends across the Rhône Valley and Saillon’s vineyard.
The Via Farinetta runs along the vertical walls of the Salentze Gorge and consists of three sections of increasing difficulty. It is considered the first via ferrata in Valais to connect the plains and the mountains. Above Saillon, the former cipolin marble quarry can be reached at an altitude of 1,000 metres.
Cuisine
Fifteen winegrowers from the region have opened their cellars in Saillon. Since 2005, Saillon has officially been known as the “City of Asparagus”.
Getting There
Bus 311 connects Saillon via the Saillon Collombeyres stop with the railway stations in Martigny, Riddes and Sion.
