Geographical location
Martigny is the capital of the Martigny District in the canton of Valais. As a road hub, the town connects routes toward Italy, France, and Switzerland. Routes to Aosta lead over the Great St Bernard Pass, while the Col de la Forclaz leads to Chamonix.
Culture and history
A bishopric was established in Martigny in the 4th century before being moved to Sion in the 6th century. Two important museums in Martigny are the Fondation Gianadda and the Dog Museum.
