In Solna, natural landscapes, cultural history and urban event venues come together. Around half of the area consists of parks, nature or water. Expansive green spaces, historic sites and places associated with Swedish film and theatre history create a diverse picture of the municipality.

Nature and Landscape

Ulriksdal Nature Reserve lies between the coastal inlets of Edsviken and Brunnsviken on the wooded Stockholm Ridge. The Igelbäcken stream flows through the area and is home to the rare gudgeon. The woodland includes spruce forests that are a hundred years old, as well as pines on the rocky ground that are up to 200 years old. The same nature reserve contains one of the largest burial grounds from the Late Iron Age in the Stockholm area.

Råstasjön Nature Reserve lies next to Gamla Råsunda and Arenastaden. It is home to a diverse bird population, including one of the largest black-headed gull colonies in Stockholm County. The bat fauna is also diverse and includes seven species.

Parks and Historic Sites

The part of the Royal National City Park located in Solna includes Haga, Brunnsviken, Ulriksdal and Bergshamra with the Tivoli Peninsula. The park is accessible to everyone around the clock and all year round. Hagaparken is part of the Royal National City Park; among other attractions, it is home to the Haga Park Museum.

Ulriksdal Palace is located in the Royal National City Park and was built in the 17th century. Guided tours are offered on the palace grounds. Ulriksdal Palace Park is also home to the Orangerie Museum, housed in an orangery building constructed in the 17th century. Works by the Swedish sculptors Carl Milles and Johan Tobias Sergel are on display there.

Culture and History

Confidencen is considered Sweden’s oldest Rococo theatre and dates from 1753. The theatre offers performances and guided tours. Several buildings have been preserved in Gamla Hagalund, concentrated around the Odin quarter on Hagalundsgatan. Solna Church is one of the few round churches in Stockholm and was probably built in the 1180s.

Överjärva Farm is an urban ecology centre in a cultural-historical setting that has been inhabited since the 5th century. This means that different historical layers stand side by side in Solna: early settlement remains, medieval ecclesiastical architecture, palace and park complexes, and preserved buildings from the area’s more recent history.

Film and Events

More than 400 films were made at Filmstaden between 1920 and 1971 by Svensk Filmindustri and other film companies. Filmstaden can be reached via the blue metro line towards Akalla, getting off at Näckrosen station.

For routes through Solna, the hiking guides contain images, read-aloud texts and integrated GPS assistance for navigation. Strawberry Arena, also known as Friends Arena, offers a distinctly more metropolitan focus. The large concert, sports and events stadium is located in Solna, serves as Sweden’s national football stadium and is the home stadium of AIK.
