Nacka: Ski Hotel, Ski Track and Culture in Nyckelviken

Nyckelviken brings a clearly defined winter activity to Nacka: When there is sufficient natural snow, there is a prepared 2.4-kilometre ski track there. Nyckelviken is a combined recreational and cultural area in Nacka.

Winter and Nature

The Nyckelviken nature reserve has extensive meadows and large stands of old oak trees. It also includes preserved 18th-century buildings and remnants of older cultural landscapes. A walk in Nyckelviken offers expansive views of the lake and leads over scenic hills. The cultural-historical walk passes through cultural landscapes, past historic buildings and archaeological remains, as well as through wooded areas.

Nyckelviken also includes a farm with cows, horses, chickens, rabbits, sheep and pigs. The animals can be visited and observed in their enclosures during the day.

Trails and Recreation

The Booleden trail is approximately 15 kilometres long. It leads from the Boo local heritage centre in Orminge to Strömmen Farm on the border with Värmdö, passing lakes, viewpoints, ancient remains and cultural-historical sites.

Hellasgården is a recreation centre in the Nacka Nature Reserve with changing rooms, a sauna and catering facilities. Its grounds include hiking trails, illuminated exercise tracks, an outdoor sports field and open-air swimming areas at Källtorpssjön and Söderbysjön.

Velamsund offers viewpoints over Baggensfjärden and the islands beyond. There is also an accessible viewpoint with a birdwatching tower at Rudsjön. A variety of trail lengths are available: an illuminated 2.5-kilometre trail, a 4-kilometre green trail, a 6-kilometre red loop and the approximately 2-kilometre Snigelstigen trail. Velamsund also has a bathing area, barbecue areas and a playground. The Magasinet building contains a warming hut with a shower and toilet.

Landscape and Water

Erstavik has the status of an area of national interest for nature conservation, cultural environment conservation and outdoor recreation. The area includes varied forests, marshes, rocky slopes and numerous small lakes. Trout migrate upstream in the Sandabäcken.

The Nacka Nature Reserve has the highest biodiversity of all nature reserves in Nacka due to its diverse vegetation. A canoe route leads from Dammtorpssjön through Ältasjön and via Drevviken onwards to the sea. The Strålsjön-Erstavik Nature Reserve has well-maintained hiking trails as well as signs about local history and nature.

Culture and History

The Nacka Local Heritage Museum displays objects belonging to 19th-century farmers and crofters. It provides insights into Nacka’s early history as well as knowledge about shoemaking and domestic textile production. When the museum is open, it offers free guided tours of Nyckelviken. On Sundays at 1 p.m., Stora Nyckelviken offers guided tours of the main building when the Nacka Local Heritage Museum is open.

During the summer season, guided tours take place at Svindersvik, organised by the Nordic Museum. HAMN’s digital tour presents the historical background of the Battle of Stäket and allows visitors to follow the course of the battle.

Dieselverkstaden hosts guest performances, exhibitions and meetings with associations, amateurs and professionals. Nacka konsthall on the ground floor of Dieselverkstaden in Sickla presents around six contemporary art exhibitions per year; all exhibitions are free to visit.

The house and studios at Duvnäs gård have been a museum and art gallery since 2007. Olle Nyman’s studio has remained unchanged since his death. Skulptörens verkstad in Kummelnäs in Nacka presents techniques involving stone, terracotta, wood, concrete, plaster and various casting methods. Tours of the craft presentations, the current art exhibition and Renqvist’s studio can be booked there.
