Baqueira-Beret: Ski resort, cross-country skiing and culture
Accommodation in Baqueira-Beret
Baqueira-Beret has 165 kilometres of groomable ski terrain extending across the three interconnected areas of Baqueira, Beret and Bonaigua. The connection between these areas shapes the spatial structure of the winter sports resort. The figure for groomable ski terrain refers to the areas prepared for skiing.
Winter activities
There is a snow park in the Plan de Beret area. A snow park is a specially designed area within a ski resort that differs from the layout of conventional slopes. The Baqueira-Beret ski resort also has a 7-kilometre cross-country skiing course. In cross-country skiing, the route is not used on alpine runs but on a course created for this purpose. The Marxa Beret is a cross-country skiing event organised by the Conselh Generau d’Aran and Baqueira-Beret. In winter, therefore, the resort offers not only alpine ski terrain but also a snow park, a cross-country skiing course and a regularly organised cross-country skiing event.
Nature
A slope leads from Baqueira into the Ruda Valley. The summit of Ratera is an exceptional viewpoint overlooking the surrounding lakes; these lakes can be reached via the slope leading from Baqueira into the Ruda Valley. The Aiguamòg reservoir is located in the immediate vicinity of Baqueira-Beret and is surrounded by an excursion area. The landscape around the ski resort thus combines a valley, mountain views, lakes and a body of water in the nearby area.
Getting there
Baqueira can be reached via the C-28 road. Public transport includes a bus connection from Vielha to Baqueira operated by Alsa. This means that travel to the resort can involve a specific road connection and a named public transport connection; Vielha is the starting point of the bus route.

Town and history
The town centre of Baqueira developed with the founding of the Baqueira-Beret winter sports resort. The Baqueira-Beret ski resort opened on 6 December 1964. This date marks the beginning of the ski resort's historical development in its present form. The restaurants in Baqueira's town centre combine French culinary tradition with local specialities. The town centre, winter sports resort and cuisine thus represent different facets of the town.
Culture
Baqueira celebrates its main festival on 5 August in honour of the Virgen de las Nieves. The Montgarri Sanctuary was founded between 1117 and 1119. The festival day in August and the sanctuary's founding period represent different points in time in the town's history and cultural history.
