Culture and History

Ľubovňa Castle was built at the beginning of the 14th century. The tour lasts 80 minutes and can be taken with a guide or independently using an accompanying text. It is possible to drive by car to the castle. From the centre of Stará Ľubovňa, a red-marked hiking trail leads there on foot in approximately 30 minutes.

The Ľubovniansky Open-Air Museum is located below the castle. It is an open-air museum of folk architecture with 25 structures. A visit to the open-air museum takes 45 minutes. The clear designation of its location below the castle connects the historic castle complex with a collection of folk-architecture structures here, without the two sites serving the same function.

The Michal Strenk Military Exhibition is located on Zámocká Street in Stará Ľubovňa, behind the open-air museum grounds below Ľubovňa Castle. It features realistically designed trenches, bunkers, artillery batteries and military equipment. At the same time, the exhibition commemorates those who fell in the Second World War, as well as the involvement of local people in the antifascist resistance in the region and around the world.

The Dom ľubovnianskeho mešťana is housed in a historic burgher house dating from the 17th century. The building features Renaissance architectural elements, original barrel vaults, stucco decoration and medieval cellars from the 15th century. The exhibition also includes an original black kitchen. A visit to the Dom ľubovnianskeho mešťana also includes a visit to St. Nicholas Church.

The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Nicholas is a Gothic church dating from the late 13th century. Tours of its interior are organised by the Tourist Information Centre. The church is therefore presented both as an independent sacred building and as part of the tour of the Dom ľubovnianskeho mešťana.

Another structure is the wooden Church of the Archangel Michael, which dates from 1833. The cemetery contains a Neo-Gothic chapel from the early 20th century. The cemetery is entered through a small building called Ciduk hadin. The cemetery was reconstructed in 2001 and is enclosed along its entire perimeter. It contains figurative ornaments such as lions and eagles.

The stated occupancy, included services, price components, and booking and cancellation conditions are equally important. If you are travelling with several people, compare the stated occupancy with your actual group size. The specific values of the individual listing determine the booking. In addition, you can check on the respective offer page which room type is specified, which services are included in the price and which additional price components are listed. The possible occupancy of individual rooms, the deadlines for changes or cancellations, and the exact location should also be clearly indicated there. This keeps the practical differences between individual offers understandable based on their own details.

You can access additional travel destinations via Nová Ľubovňa, Mníšek Nad Popradom and Vysne Ruzbachy.
