Nová Ľubovňa: Ski resort with three ski lifts and Goral tradition

Behind the settlement of Ľubovnianske Kúpele, which belongs to the municipalities of Nová Ľubovňa and Chmeľnica, there is a ski resort with three ski lifts. The settlement itself is a recreational and spa settlement in the Spišsko-šarišské medzihorí region, in the valley of the Ľubovnianka stream.

Winter and nature

Ľubovnianske Kúpele combines the character of a spa resort with freely accessible mineral springs. The mineral water there is bottled and sold under the name Ľubovnianka. In the same settlement, which belongs to Nová Ľubovňa and Chmeľnica, an educational trail with six stops leads through part of the historic forest park. The park also contains the only four documented specimens of the Pyrenean pine in Slovakia; one of these specimens has eleven trunks.

From Nová Ľubovňa, Ľubovnianske Kúpele can be reached via a cycle path that passes through the nature of the Levoča Mountains.

Culture

The Goral tradition is also part of the local character. Through its performances and activities, the folklore group FSk Taľar represents and preserves the traditional costume of Nová Ľubovňa. The municipality also has four original basic melodies to which most humorous, wedding and occasional songs of the Goral tradition are sung.

Pastrnoci preserves a living archive of Goral songs and dances. The group performs at various cultural events in the municipality, as well as at social and family occasions in the wider surrounding area. The oldest folk music in the municipality originated in the 1920s as the Valigurských family band. Several of its musicians later performed in the Pastrnik folklore group and in the Pastrnoci folk music ensemble.

History

There are three chapels in the built-up area of the municipality of Nová Ľubovňa. The chapel „Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows“ was built in 1846 and is the oldest chapel in Nová Ľubovňa. It stands at the upper edge of the village on the road to Jakubany. The church in Nová Ľubovňa was also altered in 1615, 1823, 1857, 1934 and 1987.
