Svätý Anton – Accommodation, Manor House and Mountain Landscape

At the centre of Svätý Anton are the manor house and the adjacent park. Both have been national cultural monuments since 1985 and are open to the public. The manor house was built in 1744 on the site of an older castle. The older castle had been built for the head of the Hont County and imperial general Andrej Koháry.

Culture

The village's sacred architecture includes the single-nave Church of Saint Anthony the Hermit. It was built in 1755 and houses a wooden Madonna and an altarpiece depicting the Nativity, attributed to the Master MS. The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk also stands in Svätý Anton; it is a Baroque building dating from 1755 to 1758. Its defining details include a decorative Rococo grille and the coat of arms of the Koháry family.

The Poľovnícka expozícia features animal dioramas, a hunting room and hunting weapons. It also focuses on falconry and fishing. The former Mýtnica has a different historical significance. Even before the mid-14th century, it was a toll and relay station. Since its renovation in the 1950s, it has been used for cultural and social events.

Among the larger cultural events are the Dni sv. Huberta. These are nationwide Slovak hunting celebrations featuring a historical reenactment. The 34th edition lasted two days and took place in the historic grounds of the manor house in Svätý Anton. The wider regional surroundings of the village also include the ruins of Šášov and Stará Huta.

Landscape

The manor house park is designed as a Baroque landscape park. It includes landscaped terraces, flower beds, shrubs, valuable trees, artificial ponds and a grotto. The park then transitions into a freely designed woodland park.

The museum in Svätý Anton lies in the heart of the Štiavnické vrchy, on the boundary between Sitnianska vrchovina to the west and Skalka to the east. Jablonová, Saský Vrch and Sitno are mountains in the vicinity of Svätý Anton. Skalka is a mountain in the surrounding area.

Activities

A marked cycle route leads from Svätý Anton via existing asphalt roads to Sitno, the highest peak of the Štiavnické vrchy. The route has a total elevation gain of 573 metres.
