Verona Between Riverside Landscapes and Nature
The Adige River shapes Verona’s urban development and, along the route described, connects Veronetta with Verona. In northwestern Verona, between Chievo and Parona, lies one of the protected natural areas along the Adige River, featuring local flora and fauna. The southern protected natural area along the Adige River covers 37 hectares.
Isola del Pestrino is considered an area of fundamental importance for the protection of flora and fauna. Parco delle Colombare in the Torricelle hills is suitable for urban trekking and offers views over Verona from above. Colle San Pietro offers a view of Verona and can be reached by funicular. Corte Molon is a historic rural farmstead in the northern natural area along the Adige River that can be visited.
Culture and History in Verona
The Museo Archeologico al Teatro Romano is housed within the walls of the former San Gerolamo monastery, a late-medieval building dating from the late 15th century. The Museo Archeologico al Teatro Romano is located in one of Verona’s most panoramic and archaeologically interesting areas. Castelvecchio displays collections of medieval, Renaissance and modern art. The Maffeiano Lapidary Museum is one of Europe’s oldest public museums and contains stone sculptures from the Greek, Etruscan, Paleo-Venetian, Roman and Arab periods.
The Torre dei Lamberti was built in 1172 in the Romanesque style and is 84 metres high. From the top of the Torre dei Lamberti, visitors can enjoy a panorama of Verona’s historic centre. The ruins of the Teatro Romano in Verona continue to be used for spectacular events.
The Giardino Giusti was laid out in the second half of the 16th century. The Giardino Giusti preserves typical features of a 16th-century garden, including fountains, grottoes, Roman artefacts and viewpoints. The 16th-century palazzo in the Giardino Giusti is called “Appartamento 900” and has reopened.
Walking Tours, Cycling and Culinary Experiences
The walking tour through Veronetta is 2.5 kilometres long and takes around three hours. The official bicycle tour of Verona begins at Piazza Bra. The Veneto-myCard experience tour “Food Tour di Verona” is a culinary tour through the historic city and includes several stops at historic establishments in the city. The cooking class at La Soffritta in Verona teaches participants how to prepare fresh pasta and typical desserts under expert guidance.
The Arena’s summer opera tradition dates back to the first performance in 1913 and was interrupted only during the two world wars. The Arena is used as a venue for concerts and operas. The Verona Card provides access to Verona’s major cultural attractions at a special price.
