Lomaso between Literature and Monastery History

The Parco del Poeta extends across the entire area of Lomaso, which inspired Giovanni Prati to write some of his works. The Franciscan Monastery of Campo Lomaso is one of the places in the Parco del Poeta associated with Giovanni Prati. The poet Giovanni Prati was born in the Franciscan Monastery in 1814. In Campo Lomaso, Villa de Lutti has a literary salon that marked the beginning of Romantic tourism.

Church and Franciscan Monastery in Campo Lomaso

The Franciscans settled in the Lomaso area in 1664, in the newly built monastery next to the old Church of Santi Quirico e Giulitta. The central structure of the Franciscan Monastery preserves a remarkable covered cloister, a central fountain and an enclosing wall with the typical Stations of the Cross shrines.

The Church of Santi Quirico e Giulitta in Campo Lomaso houses the oil painting “Martirio dei Santi Quirico e Giulitta” from 1619–1620 on its high altar. In 1633, the two side altars in the church were dedicated to Saint Francis of Assisi and Saints Roch and Sebastian (Stenico).

Walking Trails through the Piana del Lomaso

There is free parking for the walking trail in Campo Lomaso near the church. When travelling by car, this free parking option near the church can be included in the planning of the walk. Along the walking trail, visitors can see the ruins of the Molino dei Zeni beside the Torrente Dal. The route passes an old bridge that presumably dates back to Roman times and is known as the Ponte Romano. The Sentiero della Patata is an easy, scenic walking trail marked with Corten steel signposts. The walking trail crosses the Piana del Lomaso between castles, churches, and potato and grain fields. The Sentiero della Patata passes through the cultivation areas of the Montagnina potato, a typical product of the valley.

Stories and Events in the Parco del Poeta

In the Parco del Poeta, guided walks accompanied by a storyteller are offered under the name “I Viaggi dell’Emozione”. These walks combine stories, theatrical interludes, poems, melodies and flavours from bygone eras. The Parco del Poeta calendar includes regular events, especially in summer. Groups can visit the chosen tour at any time of year after making a reservation.

Festa della Patata and Connections to Garda Trentino

The Festa della Patata takes place in Campo Lomaso and Dasindo on the last weekend of October. The event combines a gala dinner, a culinary route with several stops, show cooking, activities and meetings with local producers. Campo Lomaso is connected to other places in Garda Trentino by the 211 and 201 intercity bus routes.
