Historic Traces in Tonadico

Tonadico reveals its history through façades, churches and historic buildings. The façades of some buildings in Tonadico feature folk paintings from different periods, giving the village the character of a “village art gallery”. The Chiesa di San Vittore stands on a hill above Tonadico and can be reached from the historic town centre via a short, steep climb. During the restoration of the Chiesa di San Vittore e Corona, medieval painted decoration was uncovered. When planning a walk from the historic town centre to the church, this short, steep section should be treated as a climb in its own right. A separate time allowance can therefore be planned for the section from the historic town centre to the Chiesa di San Vittore, even though the route itself remains short.

Palazzo Scopoli and Products from Primiero

Palazzo Scopoli was originally built as a granary and food store. At Palazzo Scopoli, the Casa del Cibo, meetings and tastings are held where visitors can discover products from Primiero. For people with reduced mobility and families with pushchairs, Palazzo Scopoli can be accessed via the rear entrance, which provides direct access to the lift. For safety reasons, this entrance is opened on request. When arriving with a pushchair or with reduced mobility, requesting this access should therefore be treated as a separate planning point.

Villa Welsperg and the Nature Park

Built in 1853, Villa Welsperg is located on the lake of the same name and houses the visitor centre of the Paneveggio Pale di San Martino Nature Park. The visitor centre at Villa Welsperg presents the geographical areas of the nature park in six exhibition rooms.

Tour of Villa Welsperg

The tour of the visitor centre at Villa Welsperg includes small activities and introduces visitors to the park’s animals, including deer, a mother lynx and marmots.

Boaletti Hydroelectric Power Station and Historic Trail

The Boaletti hydroelectric power station was commissioned in 1903 and was one of the first hydroelectric power stations in Italy. The years 1853 and 1903 mark two historic dates: 1853 for the construction of Villa Welsperg and 1903 for the commissioning of the Boaletti hydroelectric power station. The restored Boaletti hydroelectric power station is part of the educational nature trail “Da Tonadico al Cimerlo sul cammino della storia”. Along this trail, visitors can learn about the history and operation of the facility.

Castel Pietra and Val Canali

The ruins of Castel Pietra stand on a rocky spur at the entrance to Val Canali. A rocky spur is a projecting ridge of rock that rises above the surrounding terrain. Val Canali begins behind Tonadico and leads into the dolomitic heart of the Pale di San Martino.
