Novaledo: Churches, Mountains and the “Alla Bassa” Snowshoe Trail

Novaledo and its landscape

Novaledo lies on the alluvial fan of the Rosa stream, which flows down from the Panarotta. An alluvial fan is a depositional landform at the outlet of a stream and explains the name of this type of landscape. The summit of Colle della Stanga is in the immediate surroundings of Novaledo. Monte Panarotta is also in the immediate surroundings of Novaledo. The summit of Cima Storta is likewise in the immediate surroundings of Novaledo. The summit of La Fontanella is in the vicinity of Novaledo.

“Alla Bassa” snowshoe trail

The “Alla Bassa” snowshoe trail leads to a clearing near the hamlet of La Bassa at just under 1,900 metres above sea level. The trail passes along the southern slope of Monte Panarotta. Along the “Alla Bassa” snowshoe trail, you can take a break at Rifugio Malga Masi and look out over the entire lower Valsugana. A snowshoe trail is a snow-covered route walked with snowshoes. The elevation and rest stop provide specific guidance when planning a snowshoe tour. This makes it possible to take the destination, the section along the southern slope and the break into account on the same route.

Tor Quadra and the churches of Novaledo

Tor Quadra was an ancient fortification consisting of two facing towers. The drawbridge blocked a bottleneck between the mountain and what is now the drained Lago Morto. A drawbridge is a movable bridge that can block access. The ruins of Tor Quadra are an ancient blocking point on the Roman road that ran through Novaledo.

The parish church of Sant'Agostino was enlarged in 1859 and restored in 1922 after the destruction caused by the First World War. The Maria Ausiliatrice church in Novaledo dates from 1723. The altarpiece and mural are located in different areas of the apse.
