Peaks, Meadows and Protected Natural Area

The area surrounding Imer includes several peaks. Cima Arinas, Cima Redasega, Monte Totoga and Bedole are each peaks in the vicinity of Imer. For orienting yourself in the landscape around the town, the four mountain names can be considered individually.

La Vederna is located on the mountain of the same name at an altitude of 1,300 metres and is a meadow hollow. Since ancient times, it has been used as pasture for livestock and for haymaking. The altitude of 1,300 metres provides a fixed reference point when planning time outdoors. At the same time, this traditional use forms part of the agricultural history of this landscape.

Excursion Destinations and Orientation

The Val Noana Botanical Garden covers approximately one hectare and recreates eight habitats of the protected natural area on this site. In a Natura 2000 site designated as a Site of Community Importance, the Val Noana Botanical Garden provides access to a limited section of this natural area. Natura 2000 is a European network of designated protected areas. A Site of Community Importance is a protected-area category within this network. The designation places the natural area within this European network of protected areas.

The Percorso sensoriale comprises seven stations with artistic or functional installations. It was designed as a nature experience with reduced barriers for local residents and tourists. Reduced barriers indicates fewer access hurdles and is not the same as being fully accessible. When planning personally, it is therefore important to distinguish between reduced barriers and full accessibility.

La Vederna is also a destination and starting point for numerous excursions, including to Cros, Morosna and Monte Pavione. Anyone planning an excursion based on specific destinations can include these three destinations in their own plans.

There are permanent orienteering courses in Imer: one in the town and one in the hamlet of Cappuccetto Rosso. A map is available at the tourist office. In orienteering, navigating the terrain using a map plays a central role. For preparation, the two courses and the map material can be considered together.

Culture in the Town and the Surrounding Region

An 18th-century outdoor fresco can be seen at the Chiesa di Imèr. It depicts Saint Christopher, the patron saint of travellers, carrying the Christ Child across a river. Those interested in culture can include the church site, with this specifically dated fresco, in their tour of the town.

In the wider region surrounding Imer is ex Forte Dossaccio, a fortress. Also in the wider region surrounding Imer is Covolo di Butistone, likewise a fortress. Castel Telvana, a castle, is also located in the wider region surrounding Imer. The three structures expand Imer's cultural theme to include the history of fortresses and castles.
