Folgaria on the high plateau
Folgaria lies at 1,170 m above sea level. Meadows, streams and lush forests characterize the area. The Biotopo di Echen is therefore about 90 m higher than Folgaria itself, even though both places are located on the same high plateau.
Winter sports and ski areas
The Folgaria-Lavarone ski area covers 104 kilometres, spread across 66 ski runs. The kilometre figure describes the total extent, while the number of ski runs indicates how it is divided into individual downhill routes. In the Alpe Cimbra ski area, you can enjoy alpine skiing, ski touring, snowboarding, freeriding, cross-country skiing and fatbiking.
Nature and themed trails
The Biotopo di Echen is located on the Folgaria high plateau. It is a rare peat bog in a karst landscape at an altitude of about 1,260 m; wetland plants, reptiles and amphibians can be found there. The Sentiero dell'Acqua is a themed hiking trail in Folgaria. The Forra del Lupo is a themed trail in Folgaria: the 4.6-kilometre route follows a front-line trench between high rock walls on the upper slope above the Terragnolo valley and leads from Serrada to Dosso delle Somme. A front-line trench is a military trench, explaining the historical character of this trail. The 4.6 kilometres of the Forra del Lupo mark a clearly defined hiking route.
Forts and farming history
Forte Sommo Alto was built on the hill of the same name at an altitude of 1,613 m between 1911 and 1914. Forte Cherle was built between 1910 and 1913 on the hill of the same name at an altitude of 1,445 m. Forte Cherle was heavily bombarded but was not subjected to direct attacks. Forte Sommo Alto is 168 m higher than Forte Cherle. The construction periods of the two fortifications overlapped from 1911 to 1913. You can reach Forte Cherle via an easy walk of about 500 m that is suitable for everyone. Some interior sections of Forte Cherle are accessible on foot. The short access route and the walkable interior sections combine the path to the fort with an insight into the structure.
Maso Spilzi is a fortified farmhouse dating from the 18th century. The Cimbrian place name “Tåntz” means “dance” and preserves the memory of rituals and dances of the former mountain inhabitants.
Getting there and golf
Folgaria can be reached by car via the Rovereto Nord or Trento Centro exits on the A22 motorway. By train, travel to Rovereto or Trento and then continue by local bus. This means that the journey can be planned either by road or as a combination of train and local bus. Golf Club Folgaria is an 18-hole course with a par of 72. It covers 5,472 square metres of grass along a course surrounded by meadows and forests.
