Attractions in Palù del Fersina

Palù del Fersina is surrounded by the western foothills of the Lagorai mountain range. The Istituto culturale mòcheno / Bersntoler Kulturinstitut preserves the language and culture of the Mòcheno community. The permanent exhibition at the Istituto culturale mòcheno / Bersntoler Kulturinstitut covers the area and the Mòcheno community: it ranges from the earliest human traces and medieval colonization through the farmstead, mining and traditions to the language.

The Mostra Klòffen presents the history and traditions of the Mòcheno population through panels, objects and documents. The Mostra Klòffen also displays a stela that was used in Palù del Fersina for a long time. The S Pèrkmandlhaus presents the history of mining and miners in the Fersina Valley in the late Middle Ages, as well as their relationship with the Mòcheno community. The Museo Mineralogico S Pergmandlhaus displays minerals, tools used by miners and films about Palù del Fersina, the valley's inhabitants and their coexistence with mining.

Mining and Archaeological Sites

The De Gruab va Hardimbl mine was operated between 1400 and 1600. The De Gruab va Hardimbl Mining Museum reconstructs the mine's original setting and shows traces of extraction as well as various mining techniques developed over time. The Gruab va Hardimbl Mining Museum is located near the trail to Lago di Erdemolo at an altitude of 1,700 m; the final 2.5 km of the approach can only be covered on foot. This walking section is therefore part of the route to the museum and should be taken into account when planning the day.

The Acqua Fredda archaeological area is accessible. The Acqua Fredda smelting furnaces date from the Bronze Age, approximately from the 13th to the 11th century BC. The smelting furnaces are therefore assigned to the Bronze Age, while the S Pèrkmandlhaus deals with mining in the late Middle Ages.

Hiking Trails and Mountain Landscapes

From Palù del Fersina, in the Vrotten district, a hiking trail leads to Lago di Erdemolo. Snow and ice remain in the basin of Lago di Erdemolo even in midsummer. The literary Musil Trail uses numbered signs and QR codes. The texts from Grigia are also accompanied by an audio file.

Local Traditions and Crafts

During a visit to Mulino Lenzi, you can learn how the millstones work, follow the processing of grain and observe the production of local flours. At events at Mulino Lenzi, visitors can watch demonstrations of milling and rediscover traditional processing techniques. The tradition of Vècio and Vècia, the old man and the old woman, takes place on the last Tuesday of the carnival season.
