Canal San Bovo: Culture, Hiking Trails and Mountain Landscapes

Casa dell'Ecomuseo and Museums

At the entrance to Canal San Bovo stands Casa dell'Ecomuseo, a cultural centre dedicated to promoting the area and its traditions. The ground floor of Casa dell'Ecomuseo contains three exhibition rooms. The Anello dell'Acqua thematic trail starts at Casa dell'Ecomuseo and explores the area through the theme of water.

The Ecomuseo del Vanoi is a museum spread throughout the area. An ecomuseum is a form of museum whose themes relate to the living environment and landscape. It encompasses the environment, landscape, places and human activities of the Vanoi. The Piccolo Museo della Val dei Faori preserves ethnographic objects and tools collected by Giovanni Fontan over time. Ethnographic objects and tools are material evidence of ways of living and working in the past.

The collection of the RadioMuseo del Vanoi includes radios, radio technology equipment, record players and radiograms. It also contains historical books and magazines, as well as other material from bygone eras. Radio technology equipment belongs to the technical side of the collection; books and magazines complement the historical objects with written media.

Waterways and Rafting

The Torrente Vanoi also offers a 5 km-long rafting route from Canal San Bovo through the Valle della Cortella to Pont de Oltra. For rafting, the route length and water level are therefore part of the practical planning of the activity. Rafting here refers to travelling down a river in an inflatable boat. A low water level changes the conditions for navigating the river in an inflatable boat.

The rafting route on the Torrente Vanoi is intended for experienced paddlers. At low water levels, it is also suitable for less experienced participants with appropriate guidance.

Forests and Hiking Trails of Caoria

The state forests of Valzanca and Valsorda form the Caoria forest complex. A forest complex refers to a connected forest area. The Caoria forest complex lies entirely within Paneveggio Pale di San Martino Nature Park. The state forests of Caoria can be reached via Provincial Road No. 56, which leads from Canal San Bovo to Caoria.

The Sentiero Etnografico di Caoria offers more than 25 km of hiking trails between Val Sorda and Val Zanca.

Cima Cece in the Lagorai Natural Landscape

The Cima Cece da Caoria circular hiking trail starts in Pont de Stél. This starting point is accessible by private transport throughout the summer season. Travel to the Cima Cece da Caoria circular trail by private transport should therefore be planned for the summer season.

The Cima Cece da Caoria circular trail passes through the typical natural landscape of the Lagorai, crossing alpine meadows and passing high-altitude porphyry formations. Porphyry is a volcanic rock. Numerous remains from the First World War can be seen on the high-altitude porphyry formations.
