Walking Trails and Nature Destinations

For an easy walk with a stroller, the Brandis Waalweg trail, which connects Lana and Niederlana, is suitable. Its approximate duration can be included as a separate short excursion when planning a day in Lana. The route is approximately 2.5 kilometres long, has only 30 metres of elevation gain and takes around 50 minutes. The trail passes through chestnut groves, vineyards and apple orchards and offers views of Lana and the surrounding valley landscape. The combination of a short distance, slight elevation gain and manageable duration makes this a clearly defined walk.

The Brandis Waterfall is the destination at the end of the Brandis Waalweg trail. The Gaul Gorge is just a few minutes' walk from the centre of Lana, at the foot of the castle hill of Braunsberg Castle. From Gaulwiese, a well-secured path leads across suspension bridges and past a waterfall further into the Gaul Gorge. The suspension bridges and secured path define this access through the landscape.

Churches and Historic Buildings

The Parish Church of the Assumption of Mary is an important Late Gothic sacred building in South Tyrol. It can be visited as part of guided tours; group tours can be booked on request. Late Gothic refers to an artistic period of the late Middle Ages and places the church within a historical architectural style. The Schnatterpeck Altar is over 14 metres high, comprises 33 figures and is considered the largest winged altar in the Alps. A winged altar has side altar wings that can be opened or closed.

Braunsberg Castle was built in the early 13th century. Braunsberg Castle is privately owned and not accessible. St Margaret's Church in Niederlana can be visited as part of guided tours. Visiting times for St Margaret's Church in Niederlana may vary depending on the season and organisational circumstances. The two buildings therefore have different requirements for a visit.

The Church of St Vigilius am Joch can only be reached on foot via hiking trails, as the entire Vigiljoch area is car-free.

Winter and Art in the Landscape

The Gaul Ice Rink offers ice skating on artificial ice during the winter months, from the end of October to the beginning of March. Artificial ice is a man-made ice surface and not the ice of a natural body of water. Access to the Gaul Ice Rink is designed to be largely barrier-free. Seasonal ice skating adds to the options for a stay during the winter months.

On the Lana Sculpture Walk Trail, hikers and art enthusiasts can experience how artists from around the world have interpreted the landscape along the route. The trail focuses on the artistic interpretation of the landscape and therefore appeals both to people who enjoy hiking and to visitors interested in art.
