Pista Stelvio gives Bormio a distinctive winter sports identity: The downhill run is 3,250 metres long, descends 1,010 metres in altitude, starts at 2,255 metres and ends in the heart of Bormio at 1,225 metres. It thus connects alpine terrain and the town in a clear line; at the same time, Bormio offers further highlights for days without skiing.
Pista Stelvio and its sporting history
Pista Stelvio was inaugurated in 1982 for the first edition of the World Series. It hosted two editions of the Alpine World Ski Championships, in 1985 and 2005, as well as two World Cup finals, in 1995 and 2008. Since 1993, it has been the venue for the men's World Cup downhill race.
Thermal water in the centre of Bormio
Since 1920, Bormio Terme has been a specialised thermal centre. It is located in the centre of Bormio and offers indoor and outdoor pools, saunas and steam baths. The thermal water is used for inhalation treatments, balneotherapy, mud therapy, physiotherapy, rehabilitation in thermal water and a vascular circuit. In addition to winter sports, the town therefore has a clear wellness focus.
Historic centre and Museo Civico
Bormio's historic centre features old churches, palaces, rural houses, portals, frescoes and other artistic testimonies. There is also a characteristic arched bridge built directly on the rock. The Museo Civico di Bormio was founded in 1962 and declared the town museum in 1967. It is arranged across fourteen rooms and manages a collection of 3,000 items divided into two sections. The collections tell the story and traditions of the Magnifica Terra. The museum is housed in the wood-panelled rooms of Palazzo de Simoni, a 17th-century palace built on the remains of a medieval castle.
Giardino Botanico Alpino Rezia
The Giardino Botanico Alpino Rezia adds a natural history focus to the image of Bormio. It is located in the Campello district north of Bormio on the slopes of Monte Reit, covers 14,400 square metres and can be reached on foot from the town centre in twenty minutes via an uphill road. The garden recreates representative habitats of the flora of Stelvio National Park and includes systematic and phytogeographical plant collections. Interactive stations, self-guided paths and guided events offer different ways to explore the garden; from June to September, free public guided tours take place there weekly.

The Torre Alberti information centre of Stelvio National Park in Bormio provides information about characteristic places in the protected area, supports independent excursion planning and provides information about organised park activities. During the high season, registrations for organised excursions can be made there. This means that winter sports, thermal water, local history and nature are available as clearly distinct interests for shaping your stay.
