Forests, High Pastures and Hiking Trails
The area around Premana extends from chestnut, beech, birch and pine forests to high pastures and mountain peaks. As a result, the trails pass through a variety of landscapes: forest sections, open alpine pasture areas and higher mountain regions are all part of the surroundings. Numerous hiking trails provide access to this landscape.
There are eleven alpine pastures in the Premana area, known locally as “Mont”. They are connected to one another and to Premana by a network of unpaved roads, mule tracks and well-signposted paths. The various types of trail all form an equal part of the network between Premana and the Mont.
Routes to the Alpine Pastures
The Giir di Mont circular route starts and ends in Premana and leads to all of Premana’s alpine pastures. The route is 32 kilometres long, includes 2,400 metres of elevation gain and has a difficulty rating of E. For planning the day, the combination of distance and elevation gain is decisive; with 32 kilometres and 2,400 metres of elevation gain, you can allow sufficient time and plan breaks.
Another hike leads through the Valle dei Forni along a comfortable mule track beside the Torrente Varrone to the Forno, Casarsa and Vegessa alpine pastures in around one and a half hours. The approximate duration of one and a half hours provides a separate time frame for the route to the three alpine pastures.
The route to the Laghi di Deleguaggio is a challenging circular trail from Premana with equipped sections. The path to Alpe Varrone, by contrast, leads from Premana’s industrial area entirely along a military mule track. The two descriptions therefore differ in terms of the type of route: one is a challenging circular trail, while the other is entirely a military mule track.
Tradition and Craftsmanship in Premana
The Museo Etnografico di Premana was founded in 1974. In addition, traditional dress in Premana continues to be part of everyday and ceremonial life, including at weddings and festivals.
A special event in the village is the Corpus Christi procession. It follows the narrow lanes on the outskirts of the old town centre for approximately one kilometre.
The tiir is also Premana’s characteristic choral singing style. It combines male and female voices in singing of increasing intensity.
