Museums and historical perspectives

The Museo della Valle is an ethnographic and archaeological museum founded in 1979. Its archaeological finds also include remains of collective burials from the Buca di Andrea. These date from the middle of the 3rd millennium to the 19th century BC. The historical period covered therefore reaches far back in time and complements the later cultural and historical themes found in Zogno.

The Museo del Soldato displays weapons, uniforms, hats, badges, photographs and letters from the front. The Museo di S. Lorenzo, by contrast, focuses on materials documenting the development of popular religious devotion in Zogno over the centuries. The two museums therefore have clearly different focuses, which can be easily distinguished when planning an individual cultural day.

The Casa Museo Bortolo Belotti is located in Villa Belotti. Through the rooms inhabited by Bortolo Belotti, it conveys moments from the historian’s life. The villa also includes the “Convito dei Grandi Brembani”, featuring eleven busts of famous men from families originating in Val Brembana. The busts were created by the Bergamo sculptor Nino Galizzi.

Grotte delle Meraviglie

The Grotte delle Meraviglie was first explored in 1932 and was among the first caves in Italy to open to tourism in 1939.

Inside, stalagmites and stalactites form limestone columns in a variety of shapes. The lower entrance leads through a 73-metre artificial tunnel. The cave therefore offers two clearly distinct points of reference: the shaped limestone formations as a natural feature and the tunnel as a structural element of the access route.

Chapels, Oratories and Cycling Route

The municipal project “Oratori e chiesette del territorio comunale” provides visitor routes to the chapels and oratories in the municipality, supported by signage and information materials. Its character as a project is retained: it is a planned offering, not a blanket statement about routes or facilities that can be used at any time.

For cyclists, the Val Brembana cycling route begins in Zogno and runs for 21 kilometres, with an elevation difference of 200 metres, to Piazza Brembana. In addition, the Brembo River passes through Zogno, creating an independent landscape reference within the town.

The museums cover everything from archaeology and ethnography to military artefacts, popular religious culture and a historical figure. The cave adds a natural-history dimension with its own exploration history, while the municipal chapel project directs attention to the chapels and oratories in the municipality.
