Winter Setting and Village Life in Pré-Saint-Didier and Verrand
Pré-Saint-Didier is just a few kilometres from the Courmayeur and La Thuile ski resorts. Verrand also hosts the traditional Sant’Anna patron saint’s festival.
The village square in Verrand is home to a stone fountain and washhouse with two basins dating from 1882. A small 17th-century church also stands on Verrand’s village square. In the village of Verrand, the Grand Bâtiment is an old house known by the names “grand bâtiment” and “Verrand castle”. Both names refer to the same old house in the village, not to two separate buildings. The building features Gothic windows made of worked stone.

Villa Bruno and Alpine Building Tradition
Villa Bruno, in the Verrand district of Pré-Saint-Didier, is inspired by local rural building types. The building uses dry-stone walls, wood for its structure and cladding, and a slate roof. The roof is reminiscent of an Alpine village building on a slope used for alpine farming. Villa Bruno is considered one of the first buildings to reinterpret traditional architectural themes while bringing together stone, wood and slate, without explicitly referring to the wooden rascard.
Routes, Views and Thermal Springs around Verrand
The La Puscerà circular route starts and ends in Verrand at an elevation of 1,239 metres. The route leads to the Chapelle Grange votive chapel. The “Belvedere” viewpoint offers views of Mont Blanc and Verrand. Another route from Verrand to Plagnoley and back is short and not difficult; the path is steep in places and offers fairly good panoramic views, so you can plan breaks and adjust your walking pace on the steep sections.
Gorge, Thermal Water and Other Cultural Attractions in the Municipality
In the municipality of Pré-Saint-Didier, near the old bridge, two thermal springs lie in an artificial cave dating from the 16th century. In the Pré-Saint-Didier area, the surrounding thermal waters emerge at 37°C in the cave at the foot of the Orrido di Pré-Saint-Didier, above the confluence of the Varney stream and the Dora Baltea.
A route in the municipality of Pré-Saint-Didier passes through the lower section of the gorge: from the old bridge over the Dora di Verney stream, it climbs uphill through the forest for about 40 minutes; you should set aside a separate time window with breaks for this ascent. In Pré-Saint-Didier, Saint Lawrence Parish Church has one of the oldest Romanesque bell towers in the region. The chapels in the hamlet of Verrand preserve old carved and painted wooden statues made between the 14th and 16th centuries. The playground in the Verrand district offers views of the Mont Blanc massif.
