Gaby between Gorge, Sanctuary and Mountain Landscape

Rock faces and gorge along the Pianaz–Cascate del Niel route

The Pianaz–Cascate del Niel route runs through an area with rock faces and offers views of a deep gorge carved out by the wild waters of the Niel stream. If you want to consider landscape and culture separately for orientation, the route provides a clear connection to the landscape. The rock faces, gorge and Niel stream are the three specific points of reference in this section of the landscape. In terms of landscape perception, hard rock formations and a deeply incised water feature meet along the route.

The Santuario di Voury

The architectural complex of the Santuario di Voury includes a central chapel, the Holy Sepulchre, the Oratories of the Mysteries located in the sanctuary’s so-called cloister, and a Way of the Cross on the slope. For visitors interested in sacred architecture, both a central building and components arranged in different spatial configurations are of primary importance. The Santuario di Voury is the second most important Marian sanctuary in the Lys Valley and a preferred pilgrimage destination of the Walser population. Its position in the Lys Valley and its importance to the Walser population give the sanctuary a regional cultural connection.

Historic buildings

Casa forte di Fourvill belonged to the Albert family and was built in 1676. Casa Jaccond is also known by the names Maisonnasse and Soala; the building was probably constructed in the 12th century. The names Maisonnasse and Soala refer to the same building as Casa Jaccond and supplement the main name with two additional designations. For historical orientation, this therefore provides two independent buildings, each with a clearly designated name and chronological reference.

Punta Serrange is a mountain in the wider regional surroundings of Gaby. Monte i Gemelli is a mountain in the immediate vicinity of Gaby. The spatial classification therefore varies. The wider regional surroundings and the immediate vicinity indicate different ranges; this distinction should be maintained for the mountain names. Thus, the four mountain names do not form a uniform nearby area, but rather provide a graduated regional orientation.

Castello di Suzey is a castle in the wider regional surroundings of Gaby. Castello di Verrès is a castle in the wider regional surroundings of Gaby. Museo delle Alpi Nel Forte is a museum in the wider regional surroundings of Gaby. Castello di Chenal is a castle in the wider regional surroundings of Gaby. The three castles and the museum therefore do not belong to the same object category. If you want to classify cultural sites by type, keep the Castello names separate from Museo delle Alpi Nel Forte: the Castello names refer to castles, while Museo delle Alpi Nel Forte refers to a museum.
