Kisoroszi
Accommodation in Kisoroszi
Kisoroszi lies at the northern tip of Szentendre Island, where the Danube divides. When choosing accommodation, you can be guided by a wide range of interests: the river landscape and the SzigetcsĂşcs nature reserve, insights into village history, or leisure activities such as the golf course and the fairy-tale trail. This makes it easy to shape your stay around the things that interest you most in Kisoroszi.
The Danube and Protected Landscapes
From Kisoroszi Szigetcsúcs, you can look across the Danube to the Visegrád Mountains rising behind it and the Börzsöny range on the opposite bank. Szigetcsúcs lies within the Duna-Ipoly National Park and is a nature reserve of national importance. Its flora and fauna are protected under Natura 2000. If you want to make the natural environment the focus of your stay, it provides a clear point of reference when choosing where to stay.
The SzigetcsĂşcs area is a floodplain forest of willows and poplars. Among the overmature trees, there is a risk of trees falling and dry branches coming down. This warning is particularly important if you plan to spend time in the forest or are considering the campsite there. At the riverside campsite, you can pitch tents beneath the shade-giving willows and poplars; at the same time, you should take seriously the stated risks in the floodplain forest.
Village History, Studio and Churches
The Kisoroszi Local History Collection is devoted to the village’s past, folk culture and everyday life. Items from the 19th century through the middle of the 20th century are on display. This offers a historical perspective on the village: the focus is not only on historical events, but also on everyday life and folk culture. If you are interested in the history of the village, the collection provides a distinct point of interest.
Another cultural landmark is the Ujváry-Ignác Studio. Ujváry Ignác had it built on the banks of the Danube in 1898 specifically for his artistic work. The studio has retained its original condition, with large windows, an easel, furniture and paintings on the walls. The two churches also showcase different architectural styles and historical dates: the Reformed Church of Kisoroszi was built in 1803 in the Neo-Baroque style. The Roman Catholic church is a Late Baroque building; it was consecrated in October 1719 and dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary.
Fairy-Tale Trail, Golf and Local Offerings
The DunakanyargĂł MeseĂşt is an outdoor experience trail with eight stations. At the fairy-tale huts, visitors can read stories about the Danube, water or the place itself. Each hut also contains a related game, activity or question to prompt discussion, linked to the story. The trail thus combines reading stories with short activities and prompts for participation. It is a separate option for anyone interested in stories and playful outdoor activities.
The Magyar Golf Club Kisoroszi has an 18-hole, par-72 golf course, the oldest 18-hole course in Hungary. The historic Hungarian Old Course features natural dunes and undulating fairways reminiscent of famous English links courses. If you want to include golf among your travel interests, this gives you specific information about the course’s size and character.
For a meal by the Danube, Szigetcsúcs Terasz serves handmade hamburgers, hot dogs and lángos. The food venue is near the campsite. There is a timetable for the ferry connection between Kisoroszi and Visegrád-Szentgyörgypuszta; if you plan to use this connection, consult the timetable.
